Hereford enthusiasts across the province are being invited to the Northern Ireland Hereford Breeders Association open evening and BBQ on August 23rd by kind permission of the Haire Family, Dundrod. The event starts at 4:30pm and will include a stock judging competition and show preparation/ring craft demonstration by noted stockman Andrew Hughes from Devon. The BBQ will see the presentation of the 2014 Herds Competition which is being judged by Mr Gerald Blandford, Bosa Herefords from Herefordshire – recently seen on BBCs Countryfile with Adam Henson.
The Haire Family run the Dorepoll Herd of pedigree Hereford cattle which has seen much success over their 40 years in the Breed. The herd has recently produced the UK Reserve Bull of the Year (2013), Dorepoll 1 499 Einstein owned by the Cameron Family in Scotland, and the UK Reserve Bull of the Year (2012) with Dorepoll 1 499 High Society owned by the Ayre Family in Devon.
The farm walk will be a great opportunity to view the stock which have produced these winners and to see the 2014 crop of calves. The Balmoral Show Champion from 2013, Dorepoll 1 102 L Sally will also be on display with her bull calf.
The growth in the breed over recent months, due in part to the growing demand for Hereford beef in several retail outlets across the UK and Northern Ireland, has seen the demand rise for quality bulls and cows and the Haire Family are no exception with Dorepoll bulls being sold to many high profile herds in England this year alone.
Everyone is welcome to the farm at 41 Divis Road, Dundrod, BT29 4UB at 4:30pm on the 23rd August and to help with catering arrangements tickets can be purchased from William Haire on 07725653233.
